Swiss Guards Rugby

The GC Zürich Rugby 7s team, commonly known as the Swiss Guards, were formed in 2017 to compete in the Swiss 7s Championships. Made up of keen players in both the 1st and 2nd XV, the Swiss Guards comfortably won the Swiss 7s Championship and were crowned Champions of Switzerland. With their victory, the team participated in the 3rd European Rugby 7s Champions Trophy in St. Petersburg in May 2018.

The Swiss Guards brought a strong 18 man squad to St. Petersburg to play in front of thousand of fans and proudly finished in 7th place from the 12-team tournament. Determined to improve on their performance the Swiss Guards, now growing in size with more players joining from the GC Zürich 15-a-side teams, successfully defended their title at the 2018 Swiss 7s Championships and once again won the right to participate at the 4th European Rugby 7s Champions Trophy in St. Petersburg. The team for the tournament has been finalised and having built on 2 years of experience and growth, the Swiss Guards will field their strongest team to date and hope to improve on last year’s success.

Although the Swiss Guards are a new team, their success and reputation has grown drastically in the past 2.5 years, cementing themselves as one of the strongest 7s sides in Switzerland. The aim for the Swiss Guards is to continue the development and rise of this 7s team to maintain their success in Switzerland and to grow themselves on an international level.
