Stade Lausanne Seconds 0 – 30 GC Zürich Rugby Seconds

Try: Tauira

Conversion: Henry

After a long and warm summer the rugby season finally was to start again and the team was eager to pick up where we left at the end of last season. Excellent weather and a motivated squad were the perfect setting to start the new season off.

But with Lausanne having a completely new and fresh team of youngsters it was not going to be an easy walk it the park this Saturday. Zurich still was mentally on the bus ride to Lausanne, when the Opposition started with full concentration right away and managed to score the first try in first minutes of the game already. Being 7-0 down fired the boys up and we stated to pick up our own game and could increase the pressure and play in the opponents half for the rest of the first half. After two miserably failed penalty attempts by Henry and Jess from very promising positions, Tauira showed everyone how it’s done and crushed through Lausanne’s lines and put it down for the first try of the new year. With equal elegance as before but a bit more luck Henry converted and GC Rugby managed to go into halftime with a 7-7 draw.

The second half continued as the first had been going on for the most time, with GC putting up pressure and playing in the Lausanne half but the final pass not finding its target and the last run not finding its gap. When Lausanne broke out of their half for one of their few phases of pressure they did what GC was not able to do and scored points through a penalty kick. New score 10-7 and with just a few minutes left in the game. GC increased pressure again and ran at the Lausanne defensive lines time and time again but still could not convert any of these attacks to those desperately needed points.

Final score 10-7 for Stade Lausanne.

Due to licence issues with the Lausanne team the match was counted as a 0 – 30 win for GC Zürich Rugby.
