Rest of 2019/20 Rugby Season Cancelled - A Statement from the Committee
Dear GC Rugby Members,
This week Club Presidents across Switzerland were asked by the FSR to vote whether to cancel the remainder of the 2020 Swiss Rugby Season due the current situation surrounding the COVID-19 Pandemic. The Clubs voted overwhelmingly in favour of cancellation with 34 voting for cancellation, zero against and 8 abstaining (did not vote).
In light of this vote all matches until the end of the season 2019/20 have been cancelled.
This applies to all Competitions meaning that there will be no champions crowned and no promotion or relegation.
Once the “Lock-down” has been lifted and the rugby pitches are re-opened across Switzerland the FSR will look to schedule some friendly matches & tournaments before the summer break. We will inform you of these events once we receive further information.
Although this is a very sad blow to the whole Swiss Rugby Community the GC Rugby committee fully supports this decision as public safety takes priority over sport in this unprecedented time. Training is currently cancelled indefinitely but as soon as the “lock-down” is lifted we look forward to returning to training as quickly as possible and will keep you all informed of the latest developments.
We appreciate your understanding in these uncertain times and wish all our members and their families the very best of health during this period. If you have any concerns or need support while you are in isolation or quarantine, please reach out to the committee or your teammates. We can get through this by remaining united and supporting each other.
Stay safe and all the best,
GC Rugby Committee
