Luzern Dangels (36-15) Zürich Valkyries
Saturday, April 8th in Basel, Pruntrutermatte
Match report by Monica Arzani
This week, Basel welcomed us with a beautiful sunny weather for the game against Luzern, currently the leaders of the Swiss Championship. The Valkyries were prepared to face a tough opponent with strong skills both in the forwards and in the backs. From the start, the fight was on. The opponents’ strength in set pieces gave them the opportunity to steal some balls in rucks and to create problems with our scrum, but the Valkyries defense hold on. Luzern was patient and, finally, after a couple of missed tackles from our side, the opened the score with a try. Zurich was not ready to give and evened the score, with strong running from the backs. The first half continued with the same level of aggressiveness from both sides and finished with a partial of 3 tries to 2 for Luzern. The hot sun, the bench reduced to the minimum and already an injury were no excuses for the Valkyries to get back in the field and gave it all. At the end it was not enough and the game ended 36-15 for Luzern. We can recognize that the willingness to fight was never over: veterans of the team really stood up taking the leadership, great performance from new players were shown and a great passion from everyone.
Conscious of what we have to work on in the next weeks we are ready to work hard and end the season on a high for our next games again Nyon and Cern.
