home vs LUC
GC Zürich (10 - 36) Lausanne UC
Match report by Chris Röhrig
It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon when the first XV were welcomed by many great supporters in Allmend Brunau this past weekend. Only seconds after the starting whistle sounded, the sublime speed of L. Visser could not save him from a nasty foot injury which gave P. Schüpp the opportunity to celebrate his comeback after a long, heartfelt abscence from the blue-white jersey in Africa.
Only a few minutes passed and it was the GC forwards pack who struck first with a well excecuted maul after a line out, pushing the opposition back into their own try zone.
Unfortunately this initial momentum could not be kept up in the following scrums and mauls, a fact that cost a great number of opportunities and will be in focus for further improvements in training this week. A good effort by the backs resulting in another GC try provided a silver lining for the GC players, however with the referee doing his part by sending more than 5 GC players to the sin bin (none of which were for fights or punches), there was only little the brave defense of the team could do to stop Lausanne from scoring to give the final result of 36:10
