The GC Rugby academy is an effort by the club to promote rugby and teach the fundamental skills of the game to anybody interested in the game. Therefore it aims to teach rugby basics to youngsters and newcomers alike although the kids certainly make up the majority of the players. The goal is to form complete rugby players with a wide range of skills who feel at home in multiple positions and situations. A good player is one that can fit into any team in any rugby culture and fill his role for the common goal.
Our objective is to pass across not only the technical and physical skills necessary, but also the enjoyment and spirit of the game we all love. Respect for the opponents, the rules and the referee are the values we want to teach at the academy. A rugby player is a sportsman first, so fairness, respect and the right spirit are just as important as a hard-tackling or elusive running. The last, but most important factor is fun. A child who doesn't enjoy himself playing rugby might be better off doing something else. We do all we can to keep the academy a fun experience and respect the child's desire to play. We try to make the academy fun and encourage the players to enjoy themselves, while maintaining the discipline necessary for a safe learning environment.
